Sustainability: Rebecca Rendell

This term our brief is all based around sustainability and ethics, Rebecca Rendell is an artist that was brought in as a visitor to show us how her work is sustainable. Rebecca uses recycled and natural materials that she has found to create her art work with Mixed media. She is based in London now but has travelled around the world making her art as she goes, moving to Dubai after she graduated from her MA in fine art at Chelsea College of Art.

Although it isn't clear of the meaning behind her masterpieces when you look at them but it is very clear to Rebecca herself, as the most important part of the process for her is the documentation and remembering where she found each piece, when Rendell finds an item she documents the piece by creating a quick sketch and noting where she found it.

Some of the materials that Rebecca Rendell has used consist of: Crab Claws, Shells, Electrical fuses, Glass, In the piece above of the birds she has used the soft inner tube of tyres and then laser cut them, Teeth, and the piece below, named 'The Continuous Cycle', uses pieces found in pockets and handbags, here Rendell was thinking about all the small things we could do to help the environment.

Thanks!!
